McMillan "Mac" Charles Baggett, 66, died from natural causes Sunday, December 25, 2011. The son of Claire and McMillan Baggett, he was born in Massachusetts but spent most of his life in DeKalb County, Georgia. He served proudly as a public servant in different roles for the State of Georgia, DeKalb County and the City of Atlanta throughout his career. Part of a generation that responded to John F. Kennedy's call to service, he believed in the ability of government to improve society and strove to see it fulfill that promise. A committed Georgia Bulldog football fan, he held degrees from both the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. He was a former Board President of Atlanta Unity Church and a member of the Decatur-Southside DeKalb Optimist Club. He is survived by his devoted wife Ann Marie Baggett. He is also survived by his three sons with Ann Buckles, Ted Baggett (Diane), Mark Baggett (Dana), and Kirk Baggett (Amanda), three grandchildren, Sebastian Baggett, Emerson Baggett, and Evan Baggett, two sisters, Dorothy Jorgensen (Alan) and Elizabeth Rein (Steve), as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins all of whom he cherished. A celebration of life service is planned for Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 1:00 pm at Atlanta Unity Church in Norcross. The Rev. John Strickland will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Atlanta Unity Church, 3597 Parkway Lane, Norcross, GA 30092 or the University of Georgia Foundation, Milledge Centre, Suite 100, 394 South Milledge Ave., Athens, GA 30602-5582.
