Melba Lois Hull

March 21, 1928 — August 22, 2011

Melba Lois Hull, aged 83, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, at the Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born on March 21, 1928, in White Plains, Georgia, to Lee and Ruby (Elder) Shelnutt. After graduating from high school, Melba received a BA from the Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville, Georgia. She taught elementary school in Acworth, Georgia, where she met and married Reuben Hull on September 10, 1950. Theirs was a marriage of true love, ending at his death in 2009.
Melba was an avid reader and an expert bridge player. Among the bridge clubs she belonged to was a neighborhood group that played together for over forty years. She and her husband loved to travel, especially on cruises, where, into their seventies, they were at the "young" table, talking and laughing and dancing. Her beautiful smile and youthful spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but she is with her beloved husband, where her heart has been since his death. Her family takes comfort in knowing they are united with God in heaven, where they will dance together forever.
Melba is survived by three children and their families: Sandra (Hull) and Bruce Sundstrom, grandson Brian; Rick and Kim Hull, granddaughters Katie, Molly, and Ruby; and Melinda (Hull) and Don Miller, grandchildren Greg and Alyson. Melba is survived by her sister Sara (Shelnutt) Owens and nephews Jack and Larry and their families. Melba was preceded in death by her husband Reuben; her parents, Ruby and Lee Shelnutt; and sisters Thelma and Margie.
Visitation will be held at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 25. A memorial service will also be held there the following morning at 11:00 a.m. There will be a private family interment following the service.
