Melba Mae Harrison

Mrs. Melba Harden Harrison passed away on July 22, 2015, at her home with her sister, Polly by her side. She was 89 years old. A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 1:00 pm at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA, with the Reverends Bill Bigger and Paul Millarc officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Harrison was born on June 29, 1926 in Laurens County, GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eugene Harden. She was the wife of the late Wade Roswell Harrison, to whom she was married for 54 years until his death in 2001. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Adrian Harden and PFC Robert Clifton Harden; her sisters, Avis Williams and Wylene Hall; and her niece, Connie Brown. After graduating from high school in 1944, Melba became an accomplished hair stylist. She and Wade were active members of Briarcliff Baptist Church and were involved in all neighborhood activities. Melba enjoyed entertaining and fishing, but her passions were gardening and traveling. Melba continued to travel the world after the death of Wade. She is survived by her loving sister, Polly Roach of Dacula, GA and her beloved Soft Wheaton Terrier, Neco, her constant companion for 11 years. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Dolores Couey (Frank), Fred Hall (Paulette), Vickie Godwin, Hal Williams (Jane), John Roach (Glenese), Marsha Turner (Joe), Ben Harrison (Eloise), Randy Harrison (Evelyn), Amanda Knight, Peggy Waller (Tommy) and Jean Campbell. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. Flowers will be accepted, but gifts in her memory may be given to the donor's favorite charity. A. S.
