Mr. Melvin A. Davis, 87, of Avondale Estates died Saturday, August 21, 2010. He was born May 10, 1923 in Knoxville, TN, the only son of the late Isaac W. and Henrietta Davis. After graduating from Harriman High School, he entered the University of Tennessee. After three years of college Mr. Davis joined the Army Air Force where he served his country as a fighter pilot during World War II. Upon his return he re-entered UT and graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1947, majoring in Business Administration. Mr. Davis retired from Sears, Roebuck & Co. with 33 years of service. during retirement he was a realtor in the Atlanta Metro area. He was predeceased by the mother of his children, Jeanne, and his step-son, Lee Porter. He is survived by his wife, Fay Davis; daughter, Patricia Lynne Davis of Atlanta; son, Mark (wife Cheryle) and grandson Nathaniel, all of Rogersville, TN; step-son, Jimmie Porter; step-daughter, Sara Haigh Hawk (husband Gary); daughter-in-law, Dawn Porter and step grandson, Alex, all of Atlanta. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 26th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA with visitation one hour prior to the service.
