Melvin "Joe" Evans of Smoke Rise, Georgia passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 31, 2015 after a long battle with Myleofibrosis and Mantle Cell Lymphoma. He was born on February 20, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Decatur. Joe loved to travel the world, dine out, loved the Atlanta Braves and Falcons and keeping his cars spotless. He retired from a Bell South Mobility where he assisted in installing the cellular system for Atlanta. He married Kathleen "Bonnie" Evans on June 13, 1992 after a long courtship. They were married at Scott Boulevard Baptist Church where he grew up attending and was a member. He transferred his membership in 2001 to Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Smoke Rise in 2001. In addition to his wife, Bonnie, survivors include his beloved stepsons, Keith and Michael Hoffman along with their wives, Jennifer Hoffman and Sachettelle Bonnar. He adored his granddaughters Samantha, Emily and Hailey. Other survivors include his brother, Drew Evans (Josephine) of Columbia, SC and sister, Donna Dangar (Rick) of Dawsonville, GA as well as his nieces Jessie Eubanks, Jennifer Dangar, Jaclyn Garris and Michelle Matis. Visitation will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 2 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church located at 5801 Hugh Howell Road, Smoke Rise, GA 30087 followed by a church service at 11:00 AM. A reception at the church will immediately follow the church service. Interment will be at Decatur Cemetery at 1:30 PM the same day for family and invited guests. Flowers should be sent to A S Turner and Sons at 2773 North Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033. In lieu of flowers please send a donation in Joe's honor to Eastminster Presbyterian Church for church ministries.
