Merle Davis Bird

Merle Davis Bird, age 82, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2004. She was a resident of Budd Terrace Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bird; sisters, Anne McKee and Mary Ewing; brother, Richard L. Davis; and  parents, Richard and Annie Davis. She worked in retail stores such as Woolworth?s, Belk Gallant, and One Hour Martinizing. Merle was a charter member of Belvedere United Methodist Church where she spent many years teaching young children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She loved being in the nursery holding and rocking babies. She loved to read and tend to her vegetable garden and flowers gardens. She is survived by her loving children, Walter D. Bird and wife Cheryl of Waynesboro, VA, Judy Nelson and husband Bill of Portland, OR, Marcia Brettschneider and husband Richard of Lilburn, GA, and Richard Bird and wife Elaine of Stockbridge, GA; sister, Patricia Crowe and husband Bill of Monroe, GA; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. Friday, October 22nd. Burial will follow in Melwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foundation of Wesley Woods. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
