Michael Anthony Wascher, 82, of Decatur, GA, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Platt Wascher and parents William and Mary Wascher. He is survived by three sisters; Ann Bryan of Decatur, GA, Marie Riga of Brandon, FL, and Theresa Rodriguez of Port Orange, FL plus niece Brenda Bryan of Ashland, OR, nephews James Bryan of Lynn Haven, FL and Linus Riga of Gibsonton, FL. Michael was born in Danbury, CT July 30, 1928. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 1950 to Aug. 1952 during the Korean Campaign. Michael was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Decatur, GA, Chevy Chase Lions Club in Chevy Chase, MD, IEEE in New York, NY and The Explorers Club in New York, NY. While working as a volunteer for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC he implemented a professional quality sound system for the Dept. of Vertebrate Zoology. Michael grew up in Tampa, FL, worked as a field engineer in Greenland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. A lover of opera, he viewed them in many of the world's greatest opera houses. He lived and worked in Washington, DC. for 30 years, moving to Decatur, GA in 2001. Michael has lived at The Regency House Retirement Community since 2004 and leaves behind a multitude of friends there. Michael is best known for being an avid photographer who documented lunches, excursions and many other activities. A Memorial Service will be held at The Regency House, 341 Winn Way, Decatur on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 2:00 pm.
