Surrounded by his wife and daughters and completely at peace, Michael Robert Snider passed away in the early hours of March 8, 2023, at the age of 69 years old in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mike was born on May 14, 1953, in Anniston, Alabama to parents Lura and Paul Snider, a Captain in the Army. In his early life, he lived all over the country and often talked about childhood memories ice skating in Kokomo, Indiana and riding bikes in Modesto, California. He moved to North Georgia in 1969 with his parents and brother, Rick, and later graduated from Gainesville High School. He attended University of Notre Dame, majoring in accounting, and was very proud to be a "Domer."
After moving to Atlanta in 1977, Mike fell in love with Joanna, who he married on June 23, 1984. They spent 38 wonderful years married as best friends and partners acting as a perfect example of a loving marriage for their daughters, Eleni and Maria. His children thought the world of their dad and always appreciated his humor, life advice and required reading. For the past three years, he was the loving grandfather and papou to Demi, Basil and Theo, whom he adored and who absolutely adored him.
Mike was known for his fantastic mustache, great taste in music and his deep love for his family... and cars. His positive attitude was contagious, and he had the amazing ability to talk to just about anyone. His dedicated work ethic led him to have a successful international business career that included more than 20 years as an Executive with Primerica and an additional 20 years as a CFO for several different companies. He was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation and enjoyed volunteering at the Atlanta Greek Festival every year.
We are heartbroken to let the greatest husband, father, son, brother and grandfather go, but our memories of fun times spent with him will live on forever and we promise to honor him in everything we do, including eating ice cream every night.
He is survived by his wife, Joanna Canellos Snider; daughters, Eleni Snider Morris (James William Morris) and Maria Snider Halpin (Robert James Halpin); mother, Lura Mae Snider; brother, Richard David Snider; nephews Richard Andrew Snider and Riley William Snider (Lauren Godshall Snider); and grandchildren, Demitra Marianna Morris, Basil Michael Morris, and Theo Michael Halpin. He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Charles Snider Jr. and brother, Ronald James Snider.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 2500 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, GA. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, 1173 Cascade Cir SW, Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Benevolent Fund or to the University of Notre Dame.
