Mildred Ann Cundiff Dowell, age 73, of Decatur, Georgia passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 12, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mildred Ann was born November 10, 1931 in Yosemite, Kentucky, the proud daughter of William Ernest Cundiff and Essie T. Polston Cundiff. She grew up in her beloved hometown, Liberty, Kentucky where she married Vulus Raymond Dowell, Jr. During her life, Mildred Ann touched the lives of everyone she met. She lived in numerous places including St. Louis, Missouri; Vincennes, Indiana; Lexington, Kentucky; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Atlanta, Georgia. Mildred Ann will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, church servant, community volunteer and treasured friend. Mildred's gift on this earth was her service to people as a caregiver in their time of need. She was always willing to provide a helping hand or a listening ear. She had a servant's heart! Since she was a small girl, Mildred Ann loved the Lord. As a child, she attended First Christian Church in Liberty, Kentucky. Since residing in Georgia, Mildred has been a member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church. Her family and friends will miss her dearly. Mildred Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Vulus Raymond Dowell, Jr. and daughter, Linda Morgan. She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Flowers married to Eric Flowers of Brentwood, TN, Polly Westfall married to Jody Westfall of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Sarah Guzman, married to Andre Guzman of Decatur, Georgia, and son-in-law, Churchill Morgan of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, David and Catherine Flowers, Brittany and Jamie Packer, Nick and Mandi Westfall, and Adam, Nathan and Ella Guzman; sister, Norma C. Loew of Fleming, Ohio and her sister-in-law, June Dowell Rousey of Liberty, Kentucky. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15th at A. S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the church sanctuary of Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia on Wednesday, February 16th with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. The graveside service will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, Georgia. The family will host a reception to celebrate the blessed life of Mildred Ann Cundiff Dowell from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Milligan Hall at Clairmont Presbyterian Church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the Children's Ministry of Clairmont Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society. A. S. Turner & Sons
