SIMMONS, Mildred Kidd
Millie Simmons of Decatur, GA died Thursday, January 17th, 2013 after a short illness. She was born on April 9, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA. For much of her work career Millie was a dietician at Wesley Woods Medical Center, later serving as a clerk with DeKalb County Vital Records. Predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Simmons, they were both members of the First Christian Church of Decatur, GA. They are now rejoined in heaven. A loving mother, she took great pride not only in her two sons, but also her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Many summers were spent at her family ancestral home on the coast of Georgia renewing those family ties. She will be missed by all. Survivors include her sons Steve (Patricia) and Doug (Connie), Steve's children Drew, Eric, and Elisa, Doug's children Julie and Jason, Julie's children Ashlee and Aiden, and Jason's children Sophia, Elizabeth, and Jacob. She is also survived by her brothers Earl Lynn Kidd, Jr. and Robert Hopkins (Hop) Kidd. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 25th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. On Saturday, January 26th at First Christian Church in Decatur there will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall from 2:30pm to 3:30pm followed by the celebration service for her life in the sanctuary and then burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens on Lawrenceville Highway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be designated in Millie's name to First Christian Church of Decatur, 601 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030.
