Mildred (Midi) J. Force of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at the age of 99. Midi was born in 1915 in Cobb County, Georgia, to Grover and Veatrice Johnston. In 1921, her family moved to Augusta, Georgia, where she grew up with her 3 brothers and 2 sisters and in 1934 graduated from Tubman High School. She began her work career as a switchboard operator for the Southern Bell Company. She later worked in advertising for J. B. Midi was a long-time member of the Hill Baptist Church in Augusta and, after moving to Decatur, she joined the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Midi was very active in supporting local arts groups in Augusta, especially the theatre, dance, and opera. After she retired, she traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and Russia. She enjoyed people and parties, and she quickly made friends wherever she went. Midi was preceded in death by Thomas Nelson, her husband for 40 years, and by William Force, her husband for 10 years. She is survived by her daughter, Vee Nelson (Mike Ryan) of Avondale Estates, Georgia; her son, Drew Nelson, of Irving, Texas; and her grandchildren, Tom Nelson and Lisa McHattie (Stephen) of Texas.
