Miss Minnie Lee Akin, 91, of Atlanta died Friday, June 3, 2005. Minnie Lee was born November 17, 1913 to Ira Curtis Akin and Susie Bragg Akin in DeKalb County, the fourth of 12 children born to her parents. After her mother died in 1939, she assumed the role of mother to her younger siblings and the entire family. She was a graduate of Druid Hills High School and was employed by the Federal Government retiring in the 1970's. After retirement she enjoyed working at DeKalb Medical Center at the Information desk for several years. Minnie Lee was a faithful member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and in the early days of the church, she served as secretary treasurer. She was a longtime member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She is survived by her loving and devoted family including, sister and brother-in law, Frances and William D. Cardwell; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Mary Lou Akin, sisters-in-law, May Akin, Lucile Akin, Alma Akin and Agnes Akin; and several nieces and nephews. A service celebrating her life will be held Sunday, June 5, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA. Interment Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
