Miriam J. Bonito, born September 17, 1943, in Panama City, Florida, was called home to be the the Lord August 30, 2021; two weeks before her 78th birthday and 59th wedding anniversary. She is now reunited with her Mother and Father, Winston and Jeanette Johnson, and older brother, Rev. Johnny Johnson, Jr.
Miriam was very well-known in her community and had many friends and family she loved and adored and who felt the same about her.
Miriam grew up in Panama City, Florida graduating from Bay High School in 1962. She was attending college at Gulf Coast Community College when she met George Bonito. Two days before her 19th birthday, Miriam and George married at Tindall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida. George was actively serving in the United States Air Force when they married. In November 1963, George was stationed in Istanbul, Turkey. Three months later, Miriam moved to Turkey to be with her beloved. This was the first of their many adventures together traveling the world and the United States as part of the military lifestyle. As newlyweds, Miriam lived in Turkey, Warner Robbins, GA and South Korea. While stationed in South Korea from 1969-1971, Miriam and George adopted their two children, Michael and Colleen. In June 1971, Miriam and the family returned to the United States and resided in Panama City, Florida for a short-period of time before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada to join George. A year later, Miriam and the children returned to Panama City, Florida while George was stationed in Thailand. In 1974, when George was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Miriam and the children moved cross country to join him, where they lived in Colorado for 7.5 years. In 1981, after 20 years of military service, George retired and moved the family to Ft. Worth, Texas where he worked for a military contractor. Miriam and the family lived in Ft. Worth for 4.5 years before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in August 1985, where she planted her roots for the next 36 years, in the same house, until her passing.
In her professional career, Miriam worked as an administrative assistant. During her retirement, she volunteered at Briarcliff United Methodist Church, in Atlanta, Georgia, assisting with the Seniors Day Care Program.
She is survived by her husband, George Bonito; son, Michael Bonito (Tracey) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; daughter, Colleen Adams of Cumming, Georgia; brother, Richard Johnson (Christie) of Panama City, Florida; brother-in-law, Raymond Bonito (Betty) of Weare, New Hampshire; grandsons, Austin Adams, Avery Adams and Sebastian Bonito; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Services for Miriam will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Tucker First United Methodist Church, 5095 Tucker Road, Tucker, Georgia 30084. Family will welcome visitors at 1pm, followed by the memorial service at 2pm.
