Miriam Teresa (Terry) McLean died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at 8:55 pm Wednesday, May 30, 2007. Born in Manhattan, NY on April 5, 1921, she spent the last ten years of her life in Atlanta, Georgia near her daughter. Always an honor student, Terry spent her life supporting the environment and international understanding, as well as the advancement and acknowledgement of women's issues and contributions throughout history. Terry attended Syracuse University (NY) and Butler University (IN) ultimately receiving a master's degree in psychology. She was the recipient of many honors and grants, including appointment to the presidency of the American Association of University Women. Among her many volunteer contributions, she considered most important her successful campaign to mobilize the statues of Elizabeth Cody Stanton, Susan B. Anthony and other influential women from the basement of the U.S. Capitol building into a prominent display area. Even in the last years of her life, she strove to support intellectual discourse, founding the Book Lovers Club and co-founding a Spirituality group in her elder apartment complex. To her very last minutes of life, Terry sustained a sharp intellectual wit and a profound sense of social justice, always tempered by her humor. She is survived by: her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara McLean and Edward W. Knotts of Atlanta, Georgia, and their children, Scott and Cara; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Bruce and Rachel McLean of Washington D.C., and their son Maxwell; Linda McLean of Bethesda, Maryland and children Christopher and Emily; son Dr. P. Scott McLean of Ketchum, Idaho and his children, Lisa, Bradley and Joseph, and one great-granddaughter, Sayde.
