Martha Mozelle Niblack died July 18, 2009 at Budd Terrace in Atlanta at the age of 86. She was born in Winder, GA to Carlton and Mattie Mae Tumlin Niblack. She is predeceased by her brother, Thomas Niblack. Martha was a renaissance woman who truly lived her life to the fullest. She had a great passion for music, especially the symphony and the opera. She loved all forms of the arts and traveled the world. In her later years, she studied German, Russian and the piano. Ms. Niblack attended Wesleyan College, as did her mother, and she graduated from Emory University with a Masters of Arts degree in 1946. She had a life-long love of learning and attended Emory Senior University into her eighties. A devout Methodist, she was a member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. Her grandfather Tumlin was a Methodist minister. Martha was a retired history teacher. She taught at Northside High School (now the Northside School for the Performing Arts), DeKalb College (now Georgia Perimeter Community College), and Georgia State University. She inspired her students to be the best they could be. Among her students were State Representative Jim Martin and Lillian Budd Darden, former President of the Foundation of Wesley Woods. Ms. Niblack resided at Wesley Woods Towers for 12 years during which time she generously provided financial support for several projects on the campus including the refurbishing of the walking trail. She was a founding member of the Wesley Woods Torch Bearers’ Society. She is survived by her cousins, Mary Goldsmith, Julie Goldsmith and James Goldsmith, Jr. She is also survived by her very special adopted family in Austria, Astrid and Othmar Limberger and their daughter, Sophie. The funeral service will be at the chapel of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 AM with a visitation in the parlor near the chapel from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Dr. David Jones will officiate.
