Monroe James Watkins was born on May 31st 1932 to John and Lena Watkins in Summit, Mississippi. He moved to Chicago, Illinois at the age of 19 were he worked as a mechanic for Yellow Cab. He was married to Bennett in 1953 and to this Union two sons were born, Michael and Lawrence. Monroe studied the Bible and liked what he learned, so in 1975 he was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He met the late Louise and they were married and moved to Georgia in 1987. Monroe started working for Fulton County as an auto mechanic. Monroe was a very caring and mild person, always was a hard worker and cared for his family. He loved being one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was always ready to give support in any way he could. Monroe was not one to spend money on things not unless it was needed, but he eagerly made his donations at the Kingdom Hall. He served as a ministerial servant in E Chicago Heights Illinois Congregation. Monroe loved to watch westerns and he loved to sing country music. He and his brothers actually had a singing group. In 2007 Monroe married Elizabeth Johnson where they both served Jehovah together for almost 14 years. Monroe became ill with Alzheimer's in 2013, Elizabeth took care of Monroe until his death. He was well cared for and loved by his family who often came and visited him as well as called him every day, and every week. Monroe leaves to mourn, his wife Elizabeth, two sons Michael(Valerie) Watkins, Lawrence(the late Kathy)Watkins, two grandchildren Victoria Watkins and Courtney Abonyo. One brother Hollis(Edna)Watkins, one sister Jerlene (Charles) Berry. Brothers and sisters who preceded him in death are: Johnny, Leroy, Solomon, Willie C, Mattie, Eula, Elizabeth, Doris, and Joe Louis; 8 step children, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
