Angela Chotas Ioannides was a native Atlantan, daughter of Mary Gavalas and John Chotas. Angela was a member of the first co-ed class to complete the four-year program at Henry Grady High School. She was the principal organist and soloist at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation for over 50 years. Throughout her life, she added her voice to some of the community's finest choruses, including the Robert Shaw Festival Singers, the Atlanta Symphony Chorus and a charter member of Emory's Colliegium Vocale. Attendees of the Atlanta Greek Festival will remember Angela for her culinary expertise as the master chef of the baklava pastry. She served two terms as president of the Atlanta chapter of Philoptochos, an Orthodox Christian philanthropic organization. Angela was elected to represent district three of the Atlanta Board of Education and served from 1974-1978. Angela is survived by her husband Romilos A. Ioannides, mother Mary Gavalas, sons Aristides and John Ioannides and grandchildren Maria, Katerina and Alexia Ioannides. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 4th at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation. Father Alexson officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral Choir Fund, 2500 Clairmont Road, Atlanta GA 30329. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons Friday. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
