Mrs. Eleanor R. Single of Atlanta died Sunday, January 1, 2006. She received an A.B. degree in English from Bucknell University in 1955. While at Bucknell, she was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta National Freshman Scholastic Honorary Society, president of Sigma Tau Delta English Honorary Society, a member and first clarinet with the Bucknell University Orchestra, the University Band, Chapel Choir and Mixed Chorus; and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority where she served as secretary. Mrs. Single received her masters degree from Georgia State University, taught as a substitute teacher in DeKalb County High Schools and was Associate Professor of English at Perimeter College. She was a life long Methodist and taught Sunday school at Embry Hills United Methodist Church. In addition to being an accomplished clarinetist, she loved reading, hiking and foreign travel. She is survived by her husband, Norman C. Single; sons, Col Eric Norman Single and wife Laura of Missouri, Thomas Edward Single and wife Yvonne of Atlanta and John Charles Single and wife Sabrina of Mobile, AL; brother, Thomas Rugen of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Janet Mittelstaedt of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7th, at Embry United Methodist Church, Rev. Mark Sargent officiating. The family requests no flowers but those desiring may send contributions to the Alzheimer?s Association. The family will receive friends at Embry Hills United Methodist Church. A. S. Turner & Sons
