Mrs. Irene Stephens King

October 4, 1910 — July 18, 2005

IRENE STEPHENS KING October 4, 1910- July 18,2005

Irene King was born on October 4, 1910 in Athens, GA. She was one of seven children, all of whom predeceased her. She married Ralph D. King in 1935 and they lived in Atlanta several years before moving to Fayette, Alabama. She was a homemaker while Mr. King owned and operated an auto parts store. In 1954 they moved backed to Decatur, GA where she continued as a homemaker and Mr. King resumed his employment with Genuine Parts Company. They had two daughters, Hedy King Robinson and Annette King Pennington. Both Mr. King and Mrs. Robinson are deceased. Mrs. King was active for many years in North Decatur United Methodist Church. She held multiple positions within the church, her favorite being wedding director. Nothing pleased her more than being able to advise and interact with the brides-to-be and their friends and family. She so enjoyed being around young people and always stayed abreast of the changing fashions, trends, and rules of wedding etiquette. She was also active in several clubs where she pursued flower arranging, sewing, home decorating and won many prizes for the crafts she created over the years. For the last 15 years, Mrs. King has lived in Stone Mountain with her daughter, Annette and husband, Mike Pennington; and grandson, Brett Pennington. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 18, 2005.  Funeral service will be held at 11 A. M. Thursday in the Chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Rev. Steve Thomas will officiate Interment Westview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
