Mrs. Major Maxine Riefer

April 2, 1932 — July 28, 2010

Major Maxine May (Arnold) Riefer (Ret.) was Promoted to Glory on Wednesday, July 28, 2010.  She was 78 years old. Mrs. Major Riefer was a committed Salvation Army Officer for over 40 years, during which time she served at a Child Care Center, a Maternity Home for Unwed Mothers, and as a Corps Officer in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Major Joseph G. Riefer, Sr.; her son, Capt. Joseph G. Riefer, Jr., and son-in-law, Capt. Joseph O. Anderson.  She is survived by her sister, Rita Arnold, daughters; Monica Riefer, Melody Riefer, and Capt. Melissa Riefer Anderson; and her daughter-in-law,   Major Janice Riefer.  She is also survived by her grandchildren; Jordan, Gabe, Jaime, Jillian, Brie, and Meagan.  Other survivors include many loved ones and friends. A celebration of Maxine’s life will be held at The Salvation Army Lawrenceville Corps, located at 3455 Sugarloaf Parkway at 10:00am on Monday, August 2nd, with interment to follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA.  The family will be receiving visitors at A. S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, GA on Sunday, August 1st from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.  Arrangements by A.S. Turner & Sons of Decatur (404-252-1551).
