Mrs. Vasilike (Vaso) Vlass

Mrs. Vasiliki (Vaso) Vlass, 83, of Atlanta, GA, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2012. Yiayia was born on November 21st 1928 in Athens, Greece and immigrated to America in 1955 with her devoted husband Vasili and their infant son.
In America they created a new life for their young family and the foundation of a legacy for future generations, both in America and in their ancestral Greece. Yiayia's Family was everything to her and she was the rock-solid foundation on which it was built. Family was her purpose for being, and motherhood the role she cherished and celebrated with undying passion and commitment, from supporting her husband in his endeavors to encouraging her children and grandchildren to be the very Best they could be no matter what their pursuits. She was so very proud of her Family and her Greek Heritage - and instilled that pride in all of us. She was a lover of song and dance, and quite the gifted poet often dedicating her poems to her cherished loved ones. Mrs. Vlass is survived by her sons Mike, Theo and Bill of Atlanta, her daughter Elpiniki Dados of Athens, Greece, and eight of the most wonderful grandchildren a woman could ever have; Thodori, Vasoula, Theophilos, Margarita, Alexandra, Nicholas, Victoria and Sophia.
The family will receive friends Friday evening January 20th from 5 until 8 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm, at A. S. Turner & Sons in Decatur (404 292-1551) Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation on Clairmont Road. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park.
