Muriel Maher, age 96, of Fayetteville, GA passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec 26, 2022. She was born to the late Oliver & Sarah Bradford in Queens, NY on Feb 8, 1926.
Muriel raised her four children in the Atlanta area. She was a very loving and caring person who enjoyed spending time with family. Birthday celebrations were particularly important to her. She was active in the choir at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, Ga. for many years. She loved to travel with family & friends both throughout the US, and overseas. One memorable trip took her to Ireland, Scotland & Wales as she was very proud of her Irish heritage.
Muriel retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1989 after 25 years of service. After retirement Muriel continued to travel and enjoyed reading, shopping and spending time on her computer. One major project was scanning and organizing hundreds of family photographs covering several generations.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Vincent Maher. Muriel is survived by her son John Maher, daughters Maureen Chatham, Coleen Bracco (Mark), and Betsy Westerfield (Augie). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erich (Karen), Curtis and John Chatham; Jacky and Chris Bracco and a great grandchild Dean Chatham.
A funeral mass for immediate family will be held January 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone, GA. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA. alongside her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital http://stjude.org/ in Muriel’s memory. A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
