Myra Jean Austin Messer, beloved mother, faithful friend and child of God went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2022. She was bornin Scottdale, Georgia on June 13, 1934 to W.L. Austin and Daisy Austin. She graduated from Avondale High School and began working for Southern Bell. In 1962 she married Edward Dorian Messer and gave birth to a beautiful girl, Jean Marie in 1970. Myra’s career with “Ma Bell” lasted 36 years. Upon retirement, she decided she needed something else to do, so she worked at the Rich’s Service Center for nine years. Myra then traveled to many wonderful places in our great country, but her favorite trip was to the Holy Land. In her later years she enjoyed the friendship and love of numerous family members, lifelong friends from school, church congregation, Milam Circle neighbors and the AT&T Pioneers.
Myra is survived by her daughter, Jean Jackson, son in law, Curt Jackson, former husband Edward Messer, niece Pam Austin and her great nieces, Amanda and Katie, great nephew Jeff and nephew, Dennis Austin.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Melwood Cemetery in Stone Mountain. God has gained an angel but she will be greatly missed by many.
