Myrtie Annette Wilkerson Childs

Mrs. Myrtie W Childs, age 93, of Decatur, GA passed away Friday November 11, 2016. Myrt was born May 7, 1923, in McDonough, GA to the late Roy and Katie Wilkerson. Mrs. Childs is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wilton Childs; sisters Dot Bailey, Helen Cowart and brother, R. Elton Wilkerson. She is survived by her sister, Beckie Cole of Salem VA; daughter, Patricia (Bert) Ward; sons, Doug (Mollie) Childs, Michael (Elaine) Childs; daughter, Suzanne (John) Alston and six grandchildren, Will Ward, Cliff Alston and family, Bobby Alston and family, Matthew Childs, Sam Childs and Virginia Childs. Myrt worked for 20+ years and retired from Abbott Laboratories as an administrative assistant. Myrt loved the Lord, her family, and her church family at First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates. A long-time volunteer with roles as varied as Sunday school teacher, nursery worker and librarian emeritus, Myrt was very fond of telling jokes and even more fond of repeating them. Throughout her adult life and through declining health and faculties, she considered herself blessed and never complained. Myrt will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at A. S. Turner & Sons, with internment at Jenkinsburg United Methodist City Cemetery at Jenkinsburg GA, 30234. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory, 2773 N Decatur Rd, Decatur GA 30033.
