Nala Hamrick

Nala Mae Collins Hamrick, age 102, died on Friday, September 24, 2004.  She was born in White Georgia, Bartow County on January 18, 1902.  Nala was the youngest of seven children.  She attended Reinhardt College in Waleska, Georgia and married her high school sweetheart, Paul B. Hamrick on June 16, 1925.  Nala had never worked before her marriage, but was asked to apply for an accounting position with GMAC.  When interviewed she was asked about her experience.  She said ?I have none, but I can do anything anyone else can do.? She got the job and worked in the accounting division for five years.  Nala was a member of the Decatur First United Methodist Church and the Paty Class.  She lived an active life with her Bridge, Canasta, DAR, Decatur Women?s Club, church activities and her keen interest in the affairs of Clairmont Place.  Nala is preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. after sixty years of a good and happy marriage.  She is survived by her son, Jim and his wife, Padgy of Decatur, GA with whom she had a loving relationship.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28th at Decatur First United Methodist Church.  Dr. David Nagle and Bishop L. Bevel Jones will officiate.  Interment Decatur Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
