On Tuesday, September 19, 2023 Nancy Campbell Shober passed away peacefully at the age of 89, with family and friends by her side. Nancy is survived by her daughter Elizabeth and son Sam, their spouses, Colleen and Nancy, along with her two grandchildren - Katie and Charlie.
Nancy was born in 1934 at the tail end of the Great Depression. She lived in San Francisco until she was 10 when the family moved to Alhambra, California.
In Alhambra Nancy was active in many student activities. She lettered in debate and was active in student government and other organizations. After graduating third in her class of 400 she accepted scholarships to attend Radcliffe college in Boston, Massachusetts. At Radcliffe she studied and applied herself, majoring in History and earning high marks. She made many friendships and involved herself in many organizations. In her senior year she served as president of the SGA. She graduated in 1956. Upon graduation she married and taught school for several years before having children.
Nancy and her husband, Pemberton, settled in Chatham Township, NJ in 1967. While in Chatham, she served on the school board, the League of Women’s Voters, was involved with churches and other organizations. After she and her husband separated, Nancy worked at AT&T as a technical product manager for 25 years. Once she was retired, Nancy remained active taking on a part time job at a church for 10 years and participating in activities for churches and community organizations.
In 2007 she moved to Decatur, GA to be closer to her grandchildren. She was a dedicated grandmother, helping as much as she could until she was no longer able to drive. In Decatur, Nancy established herself as an active member of North Decatur Presbyterian Church. An avid, life-long reader Nancy established two popular book clubs
At the age of 82 she made the decision to sell her house and move to an independent living facility in Decatur. Once again she made many friends with her optimism, intellect and wit. She lived happily at Clairmont place until her passing.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday October 8 at 3:00 PM at Clairmont Place - 1800 Clairmont lake, Decatur, GA.
In lieu of flowers gifts to the Dekalb Symphony Orchestra.
