Nancy Helen Armstrong Dickey, “Nana,” “Mom,” “Sis,” “Aunt Nancy,” 88, passed away peacefully at home Sept. 19, 2022. She was born Oct. 12, 1933, in Muskogee, OK to Fred and Sibyl Armstrong. She graduated from Decatur Girl’s High in 1951. A few years after high school, she met her future husband, Gene, at an MYF gathering. She received her teaching certificate from Georgia Teacher’s College in Statesboro in 1955. In 1956, she and Gene married. In the 1970’s she continued her education at Georgia State University and received her Master’s in Education, and then her Ed.S. Certification while teaching 3rd grade at Briarlake and Austin Elementary in DeKalb County. She served as Assistant Principal at Austin until her retirement in 2000. Nancy had a great love of world travels with Gene, her annual beach trips with her beloved high school friends, the Sunshine Girls. She also loved playing bridge, singing in the OGUMC choir and her cherished longtime friendships in the Women’s Circle at her church. Holiday and birthday celebrations were always special at Nancy’s home, and she took great joy in entertaining family and friends at every opportunity. Nancy is survived by her most cherished identical twin, LuAnn Dippy, daughters Kathy Espinosa (Chris), Laurie Ledbetter (Jim), Lisa Dyches (Paul); grandchildren Leah, Jay (Ally), Matt, Rachel, CJ, and Ben, and great-grandson, Jett.
A private graveside service will be held at Decatur Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Oak Grove UMC in Decatur at 1:30 Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Grand Hall. In lieu of flowers please send gifts to Oak Grove United Methodist Church Traditional Music Ministry. 1 Corinthians 13:13
