Nancy Karen Bennett

Nancy Bennett, beloved sister and aunt, passed away on January 1, 2023, at the age of 69. Nancy was a very smart, kind and generous person. Born and raised in DeKalb County, Georgia, Nancy was the daughter of Jane and Gerald Bennett, both of whom predeceased her. Nancy graduated from Mercer University in Macon, where she belonged to the Mercer Independent Coed Association, and she maintained friendships with several of its members over the decades. She worked as a paralegal in Houston, Texas for several years, and then returned to Atlanta to pursue a successful career in risk management with the Travelers Insurance Company. One of her main clients was Houston’s Restaurants and she helped resolve many disputes on their behalf. Nancy was a devoted traveler and once rode a mule down into the Grand Canyon. She visited nearly every state, including Alaska. She deeply loved the mountains of North Georgia. She had a special affection for her dachshunds and for her little terrier, Zoe. Nancy and her sister Andrea – and their dogs – made frequent weekend trips around the state. She was a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and cheered them on every season, through thick and thin. Nancy loved Christmas and her home was always beautifully decorated for the season.

Most of all, Nancy treasured people. She was a good and reliable friend to many in her community. More than anything, Nancy loved her family. She took great joy and pride in her nephews, Mike and Chris Bennett, and later their children, Thomas, Cab, Dean, Luke and Lucy. Nancy is survived by her sister Andrea Bennett of Tucker, her brother Bruce Bennett of Grayson, her nephews Mike and Chris Bennett of Atlanta and their children, all of whom will miss her greatly.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home.
