During the late afternoon on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Nancy Elizabeth Jakes Trawick (Betsy) departed this life to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 2, 1951 to the late Burford Harris Jakes and Margaret June Smith Murphy.
She graduated from Decatur High School in 1969, then went on to the University of Georgia earning a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and Masters degree in Gifted Education. She later continued her education at Lincoln University, earning an Educational Specialist degree in Administration.
Betsy married William Frederick Trawick (Bill) on August 12, 1978 at Decatur First Methodist Church. They were married for 46 years. Bill and Betsy began dating as high school freshmen and grew up together, sharing a wealth of love, laughter, and heartaches along life's path.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Jakes, and one son, William Evans Trawick. Betsy is survived by her husband William Frederick Trawick (Bill), one daughter, Lauren; one son Casey (Erin), and three grandchildren Ellie, Evan and Hazel.
She also leaves to preserve her memory, one sister, Susan Jakes McBerry, four brothers in law - Lee Trawick (Sylvia), Steve Trawick( Kathy), Don Trawick (Charlotte), Guy Trawick (Nancy); four nieces - Amanda Gearin, Caroline Wagner (Nick), Julie Paige (Josh), Kelly Trawick; eight nephews - Larry McBerry (Lindsey), TJ Jakes, Lee Trawick Jr., Adam Trawick, Jackson Trawick (Taylor), Matt Trawick (Ashley), Bryan Trawick (Anna), Tony Mitchell (Annie); great nieces and nephews - June Gearin, Blakely McBerry, Hayden McBerry, Eileen Paige, Bennett Mitchell and an abundance of close and special friends who have been dear to her for many years.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm, on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home 2773 N. Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30033. Family will receive guests immediately following the service for a light reception.
She left us with these words prior to her passing:
"My life has been full and wonderful. I have never wanted for anything more. I have prayed and trusted in God my entire life. My immediate family means so much to me and all I've ever wanted is the very best for them and their happiness and for them to know the Lord."
