Neil Spurgeon Cameron

Neil Spurgeon Cameron, Jr., age 82, of Decatur, GA passed away peacefully in hospice care on June 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neil Spurgeon Cameron, Sr. and Grace Walker Cameron. Neil is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Vivian Orr Cameron originally of Dalton, GA, son Gerald Neil Cameron of Alexandria, VA, daughter Sherri Elaine Cameron of Decatur, as well as many cousins. Neil was born in Lithonia, GA, and his family moved to Atlanta in 1943 where he graduated from Bass High School and went on to receive a degree in accounting from the University of Georgia - Atlanta Division (now Georgia State). After college, he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corp in Japan, where he picked up a lifelong passion for traveling. Afterwards, he worked for the Atlanta accounting firm of Gottenstrator and McClain. After earning his Certified Public Accounting certificate, he established his own practice which he continued until June 2014. His professional affiliations include memberships in the Georgia Society of CPA's and the American Institute of CPAs. Neil married Vivian Orr in 1962, and they celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2012. He was a lifelong Georgia Bulldog football fan and devoted follower of the team's recruiting, players, and coaches. Though Neil's travels began in the far east, they continued with multiple family vacations all over the United States. He was proud of having traveled to all 50 states as well as many foreign countries, and he was most especially proud of his Scottish heritage. Neil was a member of the Druid Hills Baptist Church for 72 years and had been a deacon for 41 years, serving in many positions including Chairman of the Board of Deacons. Services will be held at Druid Hills Baptist Church on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 2 p.m., the Reverends Paul Mims and Glenn Herndon, officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 2, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Rd, and also one hour before the service in the Druid Hills Baptist Church parlor.
