Nettie Kate Kinney, aged 91, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away on April 4, 2009. Mrs. Kinney was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, James Robert Kinney. She leaves to mourn her: two daughters, Jane Kinney Draughon of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Kay Kinney McKenna, (Matthew) of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Mallory Draughon Perry (Steve) of Newnan, Robert Clay Draughon (Leigh Anne) of Dunwoody, Mary Frances McKenna and Katherine Jane McKenna of Houston, Texas. She also leaves three great-granddaughters, Georgia Claire Perry, Caroline Parker Draughon and Kate Marguerite Draughon; two nieces and three nephews. The youngest of five children, Mrs. Kinney was a native of Rockdale County and a graduate of Avondale High School. She was a member of First United Methodist of Decatur and was a diligent student of the Bible. She had a gift for memorization and even in her last year of life, could recite long poems and scripture. She lived most of her life in Atlanta, Decatur and Lilburn and most recently was a resident of Clairmont Oaks in Decatur. She retired from the DeKalb County School system and then lived for several years in Greenwich, Connecticut with her daughter. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother, always sewing, cooking and making things enjoyable for her family. A Celebration of Life is planned at Clairmont Oaks on Friday, April 10th, at 11:00 am, with a family graveside service to follow at 2 pm in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at A. S. Turner and Sons on Thursday, April 9th, from 5 pm to 8 pm.
