Neva Fletcher Cooper

Neva Fletcher Cooper, 98, of Decatur met her savior peacefully in her home, Thursday, August 9, 2012, with her son at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Robert F. Cooper and her eldest son, Charles Franklin Cooper. Also preceding her in death was family: parents: Geneva Carmichael Fletcher, Charles Webster Fletcher: brothers: William, Charles; sisters: Mary, Sarah. Neva graduated from Jackson High School, and continued her education at Locust Grove Institute in music, she taught piano at Towaliga School. After moving to Thomaston, Griffin and Columbus because of Frank's promotions, they transferred to Atlanta, where she lived in the same house for 59 years. Neva continued teaching piano in her home for many years. Neva was an excellent seamstress and made all her own clothes. She took pride in stating she only had "5 store- bought dresses". She worked in the 5 year old nursery at Peachtree Baptist Church for 15 years. They moved their membership to Briarlake Baptist Church in 1972. She was a charter member of the Business and Professional Women's Class. Neva made sewn Christmas bags from felt for Meadowbrooke Nursing Home for 20 years. Then she and Frank started purchasing bags for the nursing home through Frank's Sunday School Class, the Businessmen's Bible Class. The bags were packed and delivered to Meadowbrooke at the annual party by Santa Claus to every patient for 35 years This event continues today. Neva was the oldest resident member of Briarlake Baptist. She was an avid bridge player for over 30 years. Neva also did ceramics, tole painting, decoupage and needlepoint. Neva is survived by a son, Robert S. Cooper; daughter- in- law: Mary Pender Cooper; sister- in- law: Cora Cooper; 2 granddaughters : Angela Rain Wolfe (Tommy) , Stacia Lee Lodge(Michael) ; 2 grandsons: Jeffrey Todd Cooper ( D´ree) , James Robert Cooper ; 7 great- grandchildren: Chase Wolfe, Caitlin Cooper, Cooper Wolfe, Asher Lodge, Jackson Cooper, Caiden Lodge, and Kitra Lodge; nephews & nieces: Eddie Cooper(Wilma), Billy Cooper(Virginia) , Bernice Letson(Bobby), Bennie Fletcher(Marilyn) , Margaret Knight(Lanier), Robin Fletcher(Nancy). Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 12 at 2:00 pm at Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 LaVista Road, Decatur. She will lie in state 1 hour prior to service. Visitation will be Saturday, August 11 from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm at Turner's Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers are Business and Professional Women's Class and Businessmen's Bible Class.
