Nicolette Poulous Zervakos

December 6, 1924 — November 16, 2007

Nicolette Poulos Zervakos was born in Atlanta, Georgia on St. Nicholas Day, December 6, 1924. The daughter of Greek immigrants, Mrs. Zervakos was a life-long member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Atlanta and a 1943 graduate of Girls High. During World War II, the Parthenon Society, of which she was an active member, frequently hosted dances in the church hall for the Greek soldiers who came to Atlanta on leave. It was at one of those dances that she met her future husband, Frank Zervakos, who was stationed at Fort Benning prior to being deployed to Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Zervakos were married on July 7, 1946 and enjoyed fifty-six years together until Frank's passing away in 2002. Mrs. Zervakos is survived by her daughter, Celeste Macris and husband Demetri, son Peter Zervakos and wife Sally, three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Danielle Zervakos, nieces Annette LaFiura of Newark and Stacia Franke, nephews Dean Poulos and John Poutos, and sisters-in-taw Audrey Poulos and Nina Poulos. During the 1970's, she was a founding member of the Atlanta Greek Festival Dancers, a group that later evolved into Troupe Hellas which today is an internationally recognized Hellenic Folkloric Organization. Nicolette was known in the Greek Community for her photography and scrap booking hobbies as well as her contributions as an animal rights activist. Nicolette was a member of the Daughters of Penelope and long-time member and former historian for the Philoptochos Society. Mrs. Zervakos worked with her brothers, George and Arthur Poufos at the International Printing Company for over thirty years. Since 2002, Nicolette was a frequent office volunteer at Northview High School where she took care of the school's beautiful plants and assisted with numerous office tasks. Mrs. Zervakos passed away on November 16, 2007 after a brief illness. The funeral will be held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Monday, November, 19, 2007 at 10:00 am; interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northview High School Animal Rights Club. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at A. S.
