Nina Dellinger Christian, 98, passed away peacefully on Oct 23, 2021.
She was born in Hickory, NC, first child of Charles and Nina Dellinger. After attending Queens College, she moved to Atlanta, where she met and married her husband of 52 years, Charles Christian.
First and foremost, Nina was remarkably sunny, happy, cheerful, and positive. Always very quick to laugh! Second, she was very creative and artistic. Over her lifetime she designed and sewed her two daughters’ and her own clothes, knit and crochet, made draperies, reupholstered furniture. Gardening came easy to her so after mastering outdoor flowers she moved inside to grow award winning African violets, often winning Queen in Show. Water colors, oil paints, charcoal sketches - even remodeling floor plans intrigued her. She was very gifted.
Her most recent passion was jewelry making, first simple beading then intricately beaded pieces. Nina spent countless hours crafting yet another necklace, bracelet, or earrings, and often gave away her creations to her many friends.
Nina lived in the same brick ranch house in Decatur for over 60 years, and worshipped at the First Baptist Church of Decatur. She, along with other neighborhood wives formed their beloved Sewing Circle, which met in friendship for decades.
Nina was preceded by her husband, Charles Christian and brother, Charles Dellinger. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Darryl Riggins of Winterville, GA, and her daughter and son-in-law, Molly and Michael Scanlan of Mt. Pleasant, TN.
