Nonni Black Slagle

Nonni Black Slagle, age 93, of Decatur, Ga. died peacefully at home February 19, 2012 from congestive heart failure. Nonni was born in Paducah, Ky. on February 2, 1919. She graduated from high school in Orlando, Fl., then worked for Ivey's Department Store. She met her beloved husband, Rusty, while he was stationed in Orlando serving in the Army Air Corps. They marred in 1946 and moved to Atlanta in 1947. Nonni had so many friends of all ages, especially in her church family at Decatur and Northlake Church of Christ. She had a unique gift of making each friend feel as if they were special. She loved to entertain and was known for her hospitality and sweet smile. She was an encourager and wrote many cards and letters to her friends and family. She will be missed by many, especially her daughter, Susy Poole and son-in-law Jerry of Stone Mountain, her granddaughter, Laura Ellis DiPasquale and grandson-in-law Eric of Nashville, TN; step granddaughters Alicia Poole Nelson (Chazz) of Nashville, TN, and Holly Poole Burdette (Wade) of Hoschton, Ga.; 5 step great-grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons with Dr. John York officiating. Interment to follow at Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 22 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons.
