Mrs. Norma Josephine Petre Allen of Atlanta, GA died Thursday, July 2, 2015. She was 96 years old. Born in Nashville, TN on September 10, 1918, she graduated with honors from St. Cecilia Academy in 1937 and attended Vanderbilt University for two years. In 1940, she married Paul Mills Allen in Memphis, TN. (He pre-deceased her in 2004 after 64 years of marriage.) While technically a homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Allen served in a variety of leadership positions in many different organizations. She was a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and worked as a board member and volunteer staff person. She was also a founding member of the Roxboro Valley Pool Association and volunteered for several years at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. Allen is survived by her son, Dr. Paul Richard Allen; daughter, Dr. Candace Louise Allen English; grandchildren David Lloyd Lash, Rachel Loumiet Allen, Mathew Brady Allen and Michael Theodore Allen; sister Rosemary Petre Brunette; and cat, Gracie Allen. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday July 7 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Msgr. Albert Jowdy officiating.
