Octavia Cooper Clement

Mrs. Octavia Cooper Clement of Decatur died Monday, July 12, 2004. Octavia graduated from Radcliff College (now Harvard) with a Bachelor?s  degree in chemistry. She assisted a Harvard professor for many years. Every summer she would go to Woods Hole to assist professors with research projects. She met her husband Tony at Woods Hole. Octavia was active with volunteer work, knitting sweaters and afghans for various charity groups, and working with the Red Cross and Emory University Hospital.  She is survived by nephews, Philip Cooper of Alexandria, VA, Peter Syer of Urbana, IL; nieces, Judy Syer of Alachua, FL, Deborah Cooper of Pleasant Hill, CA, Rebecca Ijams of Watertown, MA, Phoebe Teter of Fairfax, VA, Andrea Fucarile of Pelham, NH, Melinda Syer of Wakefield, MA, Loretta Garver of San Diego, CA; and brother-in-law, William A. Syer of Ossipee, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be sent to Habitat for Humanity.  The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
