Olga Franshell Hatley Stapleton

Olga Franshell Hatley Stapleton, 86, of Atlanta, Georgia died at her home Wednesday, January 26, 2005. Wife of Cade Alford Stapleton, Sr., deceased 1985; she is survived by her children, Cade Alford Stapleton, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA; Stephen Hatley Stapleton of Germantown, TN and Sally Anne Stapleton of Atlanta, GA; brother, Herbert Wilson Hatley, also of Atlanta; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stapleton, a native of Birmingham, AL, was very active in her youth at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, where she later married Cade Sr., March 18, 1942. She moved with her husband through his U. S. Naval service in World War II. They then moved to Decatur, GA joining Oakhurst Baptist Church in 1946, where she remained active until recent health limitations. Mrs. Stapleton resided in Decatur nearly fifty years prior to moving to Brookhaven in 1994. She was an employee of the Decatur City Schools for nearly thirty years, retiring in 1999. Mrs. Stapleton dearly loved the children and her friends in the School System and at Westchester Elementary School. In recent years she worshiped at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Brookhaven. This wonderfully spiritual and virtuous woman will be forever remembered for her devotion to and love of her faith, her family and her friends, especially children. She always shared a ready smile, healing words and selfless love for others. Mrs. Stapleton requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Decatur Education Foundation at 320 North McDonough St., Decatur, GA 30030, to Oakhurst Baptist Church, 222 East Lake Drive, Decatur, GA 30030, or to St. Martin in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 3110 Ashford Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta, GA 30319. Visitation will be at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA Friday, January 28th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with services at Oakhurst Baptist Church, Sunday at 2:00 pm with burial following in Decatur Cemetery.
