Olivia Virginia Wright

d. December 21, 2010

Olivia Virginia Millen (Ginny) Wright, born March 25, 1925, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 21, 2010 at Hospice Atlanta. She was known by her family as Mimi, and her closest friends as Ginny. She studied music at the Wesleyan Conservatory as a young child and continued her love of music all of her life. She also was an accomplished square and round dancer, as well as ballroom, and was a proficient golfer, winning many trophies. Ginny was a voracious reader and often would read two books at the same time. She read every book on antique furniture she could find, which led her to a Sales Associate position at the Connoisseur Gallery of Rich's (now Macy's) at Lenox Square. Ginny married her beloved Marine, Jay W. Wright, Jr. in Oct 1941, and while he was stationed at Guadalcanal, Ginny secured employment at the Warner Robins Air Service Command. She began as a typist but quickly progressed to become Supervisor of Branch D. This group of dedicated employees worked diligently to fill equipment requests for U.S. pilots all over the world. They supplied "Link Trainers" to the various U.S Air Depots where pilots were instructed in instrument flying. Ginny's proudest accomplishment for the war effort was working on a Top Secret project which was part of the D-Day Invasion. After the war the young couple settled in Macon, Georgia, where Ginny enjoyed membership in the Civic Women's Club, and the Junior Service League and Cotillion. The Wrights were members of First Baptist Church of Macon, and Ginny sang in the choir. In 1950, they and their son, Bill, moved to the Druid Hills area of Atlanta. Shortly thereafter daughter Vicki was born. The family had many happy years at Glenn Memorial Methodist Church and Druid Hills Golf Club. Ginny is survived by her son, Jasper William (Bill) Wright, III and his wife, Nancy; daughter, Vicki Lynn Watson and husband Bill, her four grandchildren, Jay Wright, IV and Jessie, Joy Szarek and partner, Julian Gomez, Stacy Hall Henderson and David, and Courtney Hall Smith and Wes. Additionally, there are great-grandchildren, Tristan Szarek, 7, Jaden Wright, 6, Colin Henderson, 5, Julianna Henderson, almost 2, Wesley Smith, 3 and Miss Morgan Smith, 15. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts of remembrance to Glenn Memorial Methodist Church, 1660 North Decatur Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30307. A graveside service at Decatur City Cemetery will be Friday, December 24, 2010 at 10:00 am. The family will welcome friends on Thursday December 23, 2010 from 6 pm to 8 pm at A.S. Turner and Sons. A celebration of Ginny's life will be held in January at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, Little Chapel. A. S. Turner & Sons
