Mr. Otis William Jones, 74, of Tucker, GA passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012. He was Born October 6, 1937 in Zirconia, NC and was preceded in death his parents, Eva Virginia Russell Jones and John Irvin Jones. Otis earned the rank of Life Scout, the 2nd highest rank, with Tuxedo Boy Scout Troop 7. Valedictorian of Flat Rock High School, he was pictured in Life Magazine being presented the National Merit Scholarship by Carl Sandburg in 1956. Struck by lighting, he still graduated with honors from UNC Chapel Hill with a BA in English. He and Ann moved to Atlanta where he was Vice President at 5 insurance companies. He loved Cardinal Baseball, golf, bowling, ping pong, track and never missed a Tar Heels basketball game, Go Tar Heels! He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Nix Jones, son, Russell and his wife, Dawna, grandson Dalaney, sister, Lulia Jones Collins, niece, Michelle and husband, Larry Morrow and their children, Savannah and Mackenzie, nephew, Michael Collins and his wife, Vicky, their children, Dalton and Jessica, her husband, Chris Smith and their son, Landon. Otis was a Deacon at Scott Boulevard Baptist Church (404-636-7562) in Decatur where his memorial services will be held, at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 28 with Rev. Gregory A. Smith officiating.
