Ottis Newton Williams

Ottis Newton Williams died peacefully in his sleep at home on August 6, 2005. Mr. Williams was born in Vinegar Bend, Alabama but moved to Mobile, Alabama where he attended school and was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree during World War II. Mr. Williams served in the US Navy during the war as a commissioned officer and naval aviator. He was assigned to the Pacific theater and flew several combat missions during his oversees tour. Mr. Williams remained in the Navy and made it his career. After retiring from the Navy, he went on to a new career, working for the State of Alaska in the Division of Aviation. Mr. Williams was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur and was active in several different Baptist churches during his lifetime as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, and deacon. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Williams, Decatur, Georgia, his sisters, Mrs. Ruth Murphey and Ms. Delores Williams, Mobile, Alabama, his brother, Mr. Ralph Williams, Hayward, California, his son, Mr. David Williams, Decatur, Georgia, and his daughters,

Mrs. Ken Roy (Diane), Center Lovell, Maine, Mrs. Greg Solomon (Leilani), Honolulu, Hawaii, Ms. Peggy Hall, Phoenix, Arizona, and Ms. Betty Whorton, Anchorage, Alaska. Mr. Williams had seven grandchildren and one great grandson. A memorial service for Mr. Williams will be held in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Decatur, Georgia on Friday, August 12 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following organizations: Boy Scouts of America, American Cancer Society, or Hospice Atlanta.
