Ouida Keating Allison, 94, died on April 28, 2014. Born July 28, 1919 in Batesville, Miss., to Boyce and Byrd Towles Keating, she was preceded in death by her sister Laverne, her brother Boyce, and her beloved husband of 41 years, Hugh Byron Allison. She is survived by her brother Ralph Keating of Batesville; her son Michael Allison and his wife Jan of Savannah, Ga.; son Thomas Allison and his wife Susan of Roswell, Ga.; and daughter Virginia Allison and her husband John Schaum of Annapolis, Md., and their two sons, Eric and Kevin. Ouida graduated from Blue Mountain College in Miss. before moving to Atlanta in 1940. She first worked as secretary to the sales manager of a pharmaceutical company, and later did clerical work for Lanier Brothers and the IRS. Her last years before retiring were at the VA Medical Center in Decatur. She and her family were active members of Decatur First United Methodist Church, where Ouida was an elementary Sunday School teacher for over 25 years, as well as an officer in the Paty Class. She served two terms as Sunday School Superintendent. Some of her most rewarding jobs in the church were serving as leader of the United Methodist Women and two terms as a Stephen's Minister. After her husband's death, she volunteered weekly at the Carter Center for over 20 years. For many years she belonged to a reading-study group within the church. She enjoyed travelling with various groups, and made trips around the US and to Europe and China. The funeral service for Mrs. Allison will be held 3 pm, Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Decatur First UMC, with her pastor, Dr. David Jones, officiating. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or one may make a memorial contribution to the United Methodist Childrens Home, 500 S. Columbia Dr, Decatur GA 30030. The family will receive friends 5-7 Friday evening at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
