Patricia Lee Shelton

November 26, 1942 — April 14, 2016

Patricia Lee Shelton, 73, of Decatur, Georgia, beloved mother, sister and friend, returned to her heavenly home on April 14, 2016. She was wholly devoted to her family. Pat's firm belief in God supported her through her life on Earth. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be missed more than words can describe.
Pat was born to the late Wade and Ella Shelton in Richmond, Virginia on November 26, 1942. She earned an undergraduate degree from Radford University and a graduate degree from Georgia State University. Throughout her teaching career, Pat touched the lives of many students and peers over her 37 years of dedication and retired from DeKalb County Schools in 2002.
Anyone who knew Pat would say that she was the happiest when spending time with her family and her dogs Gabe, Sadie, and Tucker. She also found immense joy singing as an alto in the choir at First Baptist Church of Decatur as well as the Decatur Civic Chorus. Pat was a very involved member of FBC Decatur: a member of the Pilgrims Sunday School class, Women on Mission, the church prayer group, served on the Women's ministry, was an active member of the Prayers and Squares ministry, volunteered in the church office and enjoyed visiting with the seniors of the church. Pat also loved being part of mission trips with the church. She continued her love of teaching by tutoring at Global Village, a school for international students and kept in touch with other educators by being a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an education sorority.
Pat is survived by her loving daughter, Noelle Shelton of Decatur, GA; brothers and sisters, Charles Douglas Shelton (Doris), Mamie Ruth Gentry, Nancy Nash (Wayne), Ella Sue Smart (Ray), Joann Lunsford, Louise Sparks; nieces and nephews, Stacie Bard (Wayne), Russell Nash, Jr. (Dana), Julie Koob (Keith), Rachel Madison (John), Will Smart, Mary Francis Kerby (Andrew), Cindi Arnn (Buford), Angela Dalton (Bill), Brian Astin (JoAnn), Robin Sparks, Todd Sparks (Anne), Scott Sparks (Melissa); and 22 great nieces and great nephews. She was also a very special Nonie to Mallory and Oliver Queen.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in Pat's honor to First Baptist Church Decatur Missions or The Nature Conservancy. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Decatur, 308 Clairemont Avenue, on Tuesday, April 19, at 11 am. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, from 6-8 pm at A. S.
