Patricia M. Paxinos, 95, of Buford, Ga, formerly of Dunedin, FL, died Friday, November 28 peacefully surrounded by her family. Patricia was born in Manhattan, New York on September 4, 1919 and raised in Crete, Greece with her late parents, John and Argyro Mihopoulos. She was preceded in death by her husband, Demetrios, her sister Jennie, and her brother, Ted. She is survived by her sons, George and his wife, Maria, and John and his wife, Katherine. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kristen, Christopher, Jimmy, Michael, and Lauren. She was thrilled with the birth of her first great granddaughter, Hailey age 1. Her second great granddaughter, Emmanuela arrived three days prior of her passing. Patricia was one of the first of five women to earn a Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Athens in 1941. She worked with the underground resistance group against the Nazis getting gold shipments to England to help finance the war. She was smuggled to the United States when her name was turned in to the occupying Nazi forces. She was later awarded a certificate from the US and another from Greece acknowledging her contributions in WWII. Patricia was introduced to and later married a fellow Civil Engineer, the late Demetrios George Paxinos in 1949. They both worked for U.S. Steel in New York and Pennsylvania. She worked as a design draftsman until her retirement. She was always very active in her church and other organizations, along with being very devoted to family, healthy living, avid gardening, a friend to the environment, an artist, and an exemplary seamstress. In her golden years, she was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, the Daughters of Penelope - Pelias chapter, the KPHTH (Crete) Chapter of the Pancretan Association, and a devoted volunteer with the local hospice.
