Paul M. Johnson

Mr. Paul M. Johnson, 88, of Atlanta died Sunday, October 2, 2005. He was born in February 14, 1917 in Buford, GA and spent his early years there, until he was drafted into the Army in October 1941. Over two and half years of his World War II  time was spent in the Italian Campaign. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After being discharged from the Army in August 1945, he began a career in prosthetics. He worked in the Prosthetic Dept. at the VA Medical Center for 42 years and retired as Chief of Orthotics in 1987. After his retirement, he worked as a voluntary consultant for 15 years at the VA Orthopedic Clinic and the Orthopedic Foot Clinic at Emory. He was an ABC certified Orthodist and a long time member of the American Academy of Orthodists and Prosthetists. He was also a member of the Purple Heart Association, VFW, DAV, the American Legion and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. Johnson loved sports and especially golf and was a longtime member of Lanier Golf Club. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virginia Lee Johnson; son, Randall M. Johnson and daughter-in-law Penney Johnson of Dallas, TX; brother, Hoyt Johnson and  sister-in-law Terry Johnson; sister-in-law, Sybil Johnson of Roswell; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October  5th, Rev. Bill Bigger officiating. Burial will be in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens, Buford, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Briarcliff Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 4th at A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA.
