Paul Nathan Rohrabaugh, 94, of Decatur, GA, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, after a healthy and full life. He was born on October 6, 1930, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to Virginia Strader and John Henry Rohrabaugh.
Paul was devoted to his beloved wife of 70 years, Beverly Sullivan Rohrabaugh. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and service. He was a proud father to Jane Carriere, Walter Paul "Bo" Rohrabaugh (m. Tammi), and Susan Reese (m. Clay). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Collin Reese and Ansley Reese. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly, and his son-in-law, Edward Carriere, Jr.
After graduating from Grafton High School in West Virginia in 1947, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Thomas Jefferson. In 1953 he graduated from the University of Georgia with a Business Administration Degree. His professional journey began at the Insurance Company of North America, followed by the Miller-Terrell Company, and eventually led him to establish his own Independent Insurance Agency, The Rohrabaugh Company, on Cheshire Bridge Road in Atlanta.
Paul was a respected leader in the insurance industry, serving as President of both the Atlanta Association of Independent Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia (IIAG). Additionally, he served as National Director of IIAG for 6 years. He not only received the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), a nationally recognized professional designation in insurance, but was also elected to and served on the Board of the CIC. As he always strived to expand his and others' knowledge of the Insurance industry, he mentored many young Agents, several of whom are still practicing as Independent Agents today.
Paul was deeply committed to service even beyond his professional life. He served as the District Governor of Civitan International, and as President of the District chapter, as well as the advisor to the local Presidents of Junior Civitan chapters. He was awarded the Civitan International Honor Key for his service. In 1971 the Rohrabaugh family was honored as the Civitan International Family of the year. Paul was also a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity and received both the Silver Distinguished Service Award and the Alumnus of the Year award. Additionally, Paul played a founding role in the establishment of Bank Atlanta on Clairemont Road in Decatur.
Paul and Beverly were active participants in their community, serving as PTA Presidents at Lakeside High School and participating in the Sagamore Hills Civic Association. They were active members of Briarcliff Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, where Paul served on several committees, including the Finance and Benevolence committees. Later in life, they became members of Kelley Presbyterian Church in Rockdale County where Paul taught Sunday School, continuing his lifelong commitment to faith and service.
Paul and Beverly embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. They shared a love of travel and explored many places, creating memories around the world. At home, they enjoyed tennis, bridge and square dancing, and were known for their gracious hospitality, entertaining friends and family with warmth and laughter. They often spent weekends in the country, where they were known for their memorable goat roasts and BBQs at the family farm. Their home was a gathering place for loved ones, and they cherished every opportunity to bring family together for celebrations, holidays and weeknight dinners.
