Peter Zervakos was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 8, 1957, to Frank and Nicolette Zervakos. He began his career as an educator in Fulton County in 1979, upon graduating from University of Georgia. In his thirty year career as a high school band director and principal, he impacted countless lives and became a legend in the field of education. Through teaching he met his wife, Sally Major. Sally and Peter wed on June 7, 1987 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta, where Peter was a lifetime member. He served his church as choir director, organist, and Sunday school director, and founded the Hellenic Community Orchestra in 1997. After three years battling a neurological degenerative disease, finally diagnosed as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, Peter passed away March 17, 2013. He is survived by his dedicated wife, Sally Majors Zervakos; beloved daughters, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Danielle; sister, Celeste Macris. The funeral service will be held 11a.m., Friday, March 22, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation. Interment, Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Thursday evening, March 21, prior to the prayer service at 7 p.m. at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
