Peter Joseph Bryg of Atlanta, GA passed away on Wednesday August 7, 2013. Peter was born on July 28, 1941 to the late Lucy and Peter Bryg of Derby, Connecticut, where he was raised. He attended Princeton University and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Fairfield University and his Master's from Duke University. He moved to Georgia in the 1960's. His first job was as an English instructor at West Georgia College in Carrollton. After that, he took a position with the Federal Government. Over his 40 year career, Peter worked in various capacities with the government and most recently with the US Department of Labor in Atlanta. Peter was sought out by his co-workers for his vast knowledge and his willingness to mentor them and, more importantly, to become a friend. Peter received many awards and accommodations during those 40 years for his excellent service. Peter was dedicated to growing and sharing the arts in the Atlanta community. He served many years as volunteer at Emmaus House in Atlanta and for over 30 years he recorded poetry and books for the Georgia Radio Reading Service. As a dedicated member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, he was a member and mentor for eight years in the Education for Ministry program. He enjoyed interacting with others and encouraged others to express their ideas. Teaching was his true calling. He is survived by his partner of 32 years Edward Nix of Atlanta; two sisters, Laura Bryg of Sarasota, FL and Catherine Bryg Uznanski of Moore, SC; brother, Michael Bryg of Seymour, CT; two step-daughters, Kimberly Berens of Oyster Bay, NY and Tamara Nix of Atlanta, GA; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church at 1790 LaVista Rd, Atlanta, GA on August 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's of Arimathea Memorial Garden, which is on the grounds of St. Bartholomew.
