Phyllis (Leake) Clarke Brown of Dunwoody, GA, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at Givens Estates Health Center, Asheville, NC. Born in Clarksdale, MS, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Ray Leake and Maesie Meek Leake. She grew up in and loved Atlanta. She was the wife of Charles (Charlie) Hunt Brown, Jr., who died in 2011.
Phyllis and her beloved Charlie enjoyed boating on Lake Lanier and snow skiing throughout the United States. Phyllis was known for her beauty, style, sense of humor and good conversation. She had a heart of gold. She was a gracious hostess who enjoyed giving and attending parties, and loved to dance. She excelled in the cooking of Southern cuisine, and after retirement read avidly. An animal lover, she cared for a number of rescue dogs throughout her life.
She was organized, efficient and productive whether in her professional life, her home life or her volunteer work. She retired from Marshalls as a Human Resources Manager. Phyllis was a long-time member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church and was actively involved in the Church’s ministries. She and Charlie were members of the Capital City Club in Atlanta.
She is survived by a daughter, Amanda Susan Clarke of Evanston, IL; stepdaughters, Reba Clarke Totten of Asheville, NC, Cheryl Brown Sykes of Sandy Springs, GA, and Marilyn Brown Hunt of Madison, GA; a stepson, Charles Hunt Brown III of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the Parlor at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA, on September 18, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
The family is grateful for the extraordinary care and love Phyllis received in Asheville from Dr. Gloria Trujillo and Dr. Timothy Plaut, and from Arbor Terrace Asheville, Givens Estates Health Center, and Four Seasons Hospice.
