Phyllis Earlene Spratling passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 7, 2024, at the age of 90. A remembrance of Phyllis will be held January 18, 2024, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, followed by a graveside service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Phyllis leaves behind her sons, Philip Spratling and wife, Vickie; Brian Spratling and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Andrew Spratling, and wife, Cailen Spratling: Kacy Martin and husband, Josh; great-grandchildren, Dylan Spratling and Tristan Spratling.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, L. H. Spratling, Jr. and daughters, Laura Spratling and Karen Spratling.
Phyllis was born February 23, 1933, in Temple, Georgia. Phyllis grew up in Douglasville, Georgia and graduated from Douglasville High School.
Phyllis met the love of her life, Leonard Herman Spratling on a blind date, set up by Herman's cousin, Ann Moon. They married in 1950. Phyllis and Herman celebrated 50 years of marriage in December 2000.
Phyllis and Herman had four children and their life revolved around family.
This included going to church on Sundays, then going over to Bama's house for lunch afterwards. They also supported each child's sporting events and other interests, while also maintaining "date nights" for themselves. Phyllis also shared a love of music and theatre with Herman.
Phyllis was a devoted mother and homemaker in chief. It was a lively household to say the least! Phyllis somehow found time to get together with the neighbors to play Bridge.
In addition to family, Phyllis began her career at the Georgia Department of Agriculture in 1970. She retired in 1985 after 15 years of service. Phyllis and Herman were ready to begin their retirement years together. Retirement was the beginning of many years of traveling fun with Herman. They toured: Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Caribbean Islands, and road trips across the USA. They especially enjoyed traveling by cruise ship.
Phyllis continued her love of travel with friends and senior groups until 2018. Phyllis followed Atlanta Braves baseball and enjoyed attending home games.
Phyllis also loved spending time with friends, family and especially her grandchildren. She attended their sporting events and many family celebrations.
We will miss Phyllis's sweet presence dearly.
